Sometimes, going on a walk can only bring so much joy. Looking for other endeavors you can do with your hound may feel limited, but let’s try to think outside the box. If it’s safe and you allow it, dogs thoroughly enjoy testing the waters. Here are a few fun water activities for you and your dog to do together next time you’re ready for adventure.
Take a Swim
The only living things that love water more than dogs are children at the hotel pool. Nevertheless, your pooch likely has the inherent nature to jump in the nearest body of water. You’ll need to make sure that it’s safe for them to paddle and that they can handle the environment where they are swimming. If they show any signs of complications, don’t hesitate to get them out of the water immediately.
Hop on a Boat
If you can take a dog’s enjoyment from sticking their head outside of the car and multiply it tenfold, you can understand why they love being on a boat. The fresh, crisp air blowing through their fur is the ultimate feeling when it comes to rest and relaxation. However, don’t forget to bring an extra life jacket—they need them, too!
Ride the Waves
Is there anything cooler than seeing a surfing dog? If you can ride the wave, you may bring your dog along for the ride. Surfing requires you to have hours of practice, so you can expect that your pet will need, at the minimum, the same amount of time. Start small to make sure they can handle it because you don’t want to be up a creek without a paddle.
Paddleboard With a Friend
If surfing is a bit extreme for both of you, try hopping on a paddleboard instead. Having a partner accompany you on the ride is an excellent way to enhance your paddleboarding venture. However, you’ll probably want to master balancing techniques before you head out into deeper water. Feeling safe and sound is vital not only for you but for your pup as well.
Diving Dog
Tossing a ball around the yard provides enough entertainment for you and your best buddy. But it can be a lot more fun when you can play fetch in a gigantic dunk tank. Grab your dog’s favorite toy and toss it into the water, and you can watch them dive for it like an Olympic athlete. In fact, this activity is recognized as a sport by the American Kennel Club Title.
Trying any of these fun water activities for you and your dog to do together allows you to enjoy some of your favorite hobbies with your best friend. Creating a strong bond while getting them active helps in more ways than one. Also, it can be exhilarating to try some new things. Thus, even if you are a beginner at these watersports, you and your dog can learn together!
