Even though Ukraine as a country has only been around for a little over thirty years, Ukraine’s history extends for several hundred years. For example, in the 12th century, there was a medieval city called Kyivan Rus, which thrived for some time. Sadly though, due to its location, Ukraine has suffered lots of wars which has decimated most of its past.
3. Ukraine Has the Deepest Subway Station in the World
One of the most interesting Ukraine fun facts you’ll read in today’s post is that Arsenalna is the deepest subway station in the world. It’s over 300ft, and getting to the bottom can take up to 10 minutes. So, if you’re ever there, make sure to leave your hotel on time, or you might miss the subway!
4. Language of Ukraine
Most of the time, people assume that Ukrainians speak Russian, which is true to some extent. Yet in reality, they also speak Ukrainian.
And the truth is that the official language of Ukraine is Ukrainian, and the only reason they also speak Russian is from the time the USSR invaded Ukraine. So, if you want to make a Ukrainian happy speak the official language, and while you’re at it, make sure you carry some Ukraine flags!
5. Several UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Did you know that Ukraine is home to over seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites? These World Heritage Sites extend throughout the entire country, each unique in its own way. But, the most popular site you can visit is that of Carpathians since it’s a church made out of wood.
6. Chernobyl
Undoubtedly, you’ve heard about the nuclear disaster that occurred in the city of Chernobyl, but did you know you could visit it? Nowadays, scientists have deemed the abandoned city mostly safe, but some areas are still off-limit. But, keep in mind that you need to visit Chernobyl with a guide, as going by yourself can be risky.
