Surprising Facts You Didn’t Know About CBD

Promoted by health and wellness organizations and encouraged by the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD has been making its way into the public eye. It has gradually become more widely available in a variety of products that allow you to pick your favorite method of consumption. Many articles have since been posted explaining the basics of CBD to new users, but here are some surprising facts you didn’t know about CBD.

The FDA’s Stance on CBD

With the legalization of hemp and research on cannabinoids like CBD, the FDA doesn’t actually regulate it as you might expect. Instead, the CBD counts as a health supplement. The FDA still has jurisdiction over CBD, of course, but the rules for supplements differ from the guidelines expected of traditional food and drugs. In particular, the manufacturers of CBD must comply with FDA standards in regard to the ingredient safety, purity, and the manufacturing process. This ensures that CBD products are safely produced, but that the FDA does not have control over them before they head out to market.

CBD Is Just One of 120+

Another surprising fact you didn’t know about CBD –and by extension THC—is that they aren’t the only cannabinoids found within cannabis plants, nor are they the only cannabinoids being researched. In fact, these other cannabinoids are similar to CBD and can make the benefits of CBD even stronger through something called the “Entourage Effect.” So, when you’re reviewing the label of CBD products, don’t be alarmed if it’s not a purely CBD product. Those other cannabinoids are beneficial, if you don’t want to experience intoxication, and the only one you should watch out for is THC.

The “Best” Way To Take CBD

While there may be a wide variety of products, if your goal is to find the most effective ones, then you want to take “bioavailability” into account. The term refers to how much of the CBD’s dosage finds its way into your circulation. For an easy technique, you can simply place a few drops of CBD oil under your tongue for its bioavailability. However, if you prefer something a bit more enjoyable, combining CBD oil with high-fat foods has been found to increase CBD blood levels 3-5 times more than an edible dosage would typically provide.
