How Does Soap Work?
Soap that is properly manufactured and used to clean skin can prevent many diseases, as well as maintain your skin healthy. Although soap is one of the most common household products that we use, there are still some myths that surround it. The COVID-19 health crisis certainly shined a ton of light on the importance of soap and properly washing one’s hands multiple times daily. Soap can help fight against viruses that unfortunately are always in the atmosphere.
Soap molecules have two ends – one end loves the water and one end hates it. This is how it works and is effective. The end that hates water binds with grease and oil and helps separate it. Now there’s a conversation starer for you either live or on Twitter or Facebook.
Many people have a misconception that soap has many chemicals in it. Soap is made from natural ingredients, such as oils, lye, salts, and glycerin, and washing with water is healthy. The FDA ruled that “antibacterial” soaps over the counter are NOT more effective than regular soap, so consumers would be just fine purchasing basic soap and using water. SMH at all those “antibacterial” advertisements.
These are all natural ingredients that will not cause any harm to the body, but still some people believe that soap is full of chemicals that cause many health problems. However, soap that is used by itself is quite harmless.
Sodium Hydroxide
Sodium Hydroxide or Lye is a substance that has several uses in the industry of making different types of soap. One of these uses is for cleaning hands and cleaning skin. It is said that sodium hydroxide is very effective in cleaning your hands and it also removes dirt from your skin. The common household ingredients used for making soap are usually alcohols, water, fats, alkalis and oils.
You can try some basic cleaning of your hands with the help of the shampoo and soap. After doing this you need to use some soap or lye to clean your hands. While using the soap or lye, you have to be very careful as this could cause burning to your skin. You need to be careful and apply only the amount required to clean your hands and the other parts of your body. Do not overdo it because it could make your skin to become red, dry and itchy.
Try to make your own liquid soap at home. When making the soap take care of following things: Using only cold water. Making the soap while the machine is running. Not using any chemical substances in the soap. Using clean tools. It is easy to make the soap at home by mixing lye and water together. Once you have made the soap, you can apply it on your hands and skin and wash it off when the soap has dried.
Disinfectants and antiseptics are also commonly believed to be dangerous. However, many of the disinfectants that are used in soap actually have other properties that prevent or kill virus, bacteria, and other germs.
For example, sodium hypochlorite and bleach are both strong disinfectant and are not considered to be harmful. However, the fact that many of us do not know about this fact only makes it worse.
The disinfectant in soap can help in keeping cold water and air inside water heaters and air conditioners. Although there is still some debate about whether or not water and air heaters can work if they are infected with viruses and bacteria, we do know that cleaning air conditioning systems and water heaters help in killing viruses and bacteria.
If you want to kill the cold water that comes out of your faucet, you should not buy unscented soaps or soap that contains chlorine. Unscented soaps and soap with chlorine will not work because they contain an acid that will reduce the ability of the soap to dry.
Most antibacterial soaps are made with chlorinated ingredients. You should also not use chlorinated soaps because they do not work as effectively as soap without chlorine. Government sponsored studies have shown that soap is effective at cleaning hands and other body parts.
Soap Helps In Many Ways
Many people do not realize that soap contains many antibacterial and disinfecting agents, which can be used in a wide range of products, such as baby diapers, baby bottles, car seats, and food products. This does not mean that using soap on food is good for you, however.
Most soap manufacturers will not say that they contain chemicals that cause cancer, which is why most consumers do not know that this is what they are using. Some antibacterial soaps do contain strong acids, which will damage the skin and create many irritations.
Sodium Laureth Sulphate is an antibacterial agent that was once thought to be safe. Unfortunately, this chemical is often used as a degreasing agent, and is often used as a bleaching agent.
Ingredients that are harmful to the skin are also found in moisturizers, even though these ingredients may have other properties that are beneficial to the skin. Just remember that you should always make sure that the products that you are buying are good for you, and do not buy an expensive product that has chemicals and/or harmful ingredients.
