How To Take Care of Your Animal Enclosures

Cleaning your beloved animal’s housing is an essential part of taking care of them and providing sustainable housing. A well-kept home keeps them safe from illnesses and infections and makes them happier and more loveable to be around. If you’re looking at how to take care of your animal enclosures, here’s a small guide to get started.

Remove Old Bedding

When removing the old bedding, be sure to wear gloves to protect you from any potentially hazardous rubbish. Thoroughly strip the enclosure from any bedding, nesting, waste, and feeding supplies. To maintain a sanitary process, consider placing all the old bedding inside a bag to throw away directly after cleaning.

Disinfect Food and Water Dispensers

When you remove the feeding supplies, take them to the sink and allow them to soak in warm soapy water while you do the next part. Keeping your animals safe from infections includes ensuring their food and water supply is free of leftover dirt and grime. The place where their faces are the most can often carry a lot of bacteria and leave room for viruses to grow.

Disinfect All Surfaces

After placing the feeding supplies in the sink to soak, it’s time to scrub the housing surfaces. When you think about how to take care of your animal enclosures, disinfecting all the surfaces is one of the most effective ways to provide a safe and clean environment. It’s highly encouraged to use a pet-safe cleaning product with a low chemical count. Air-dry the entire enclosure before starting over with new supplies.

Provide Fresh Supplies

Reassemble the housing to the best of your ability the way your animals prefer. As you begin to put new supplies in, now’s a good time to inspect all the wiring and the construction to ensure no holes, sharp edges, or weak spots. Lay new bedding, fresh food and water, and any toys back in the space before reintroducing your animals.

If you feel the space has seen better days, you can build a new animal enclosure with a more durable frame and brand-new supplies. The important part is to ensure the environment is habitable, sanitary, and inviting for your special friend.
