Careers That Will Be Gone in the Next Few Decades

The world around us is rapidly changing. A large part of that is due to the advancements we’ve made in technology. Certain aspects have gotten so good that some jobs are on the chopping block. We’ve made a list of careers that will be gone in the next few decades.

Most Professional Drivers

The self-driving car revolution is already underway. Even though the technology still isn’t perfect, the only thing holding it back is how costly it’s been to implement. That’s why vehicles like semi-trucks, taxis, and delivery cars will be the first to go. No longer having to pay someone to drive those vehicles will save companies tons of money, making the upfront cost better in the long run.

Most Fast Food and Retail Positions

If the pandemic has shown us anything, it’s that we don’t need physical locations to get our everyday goods. We can either order them online or have the store send them directly to us. Plus, with online credit card processing services becoming faster and more secure than ever, there’s no reason not to shop online.

For now, you need someone who will put orders together and make your food, but in the not-too-distant future, these are all tasks robots will accomplish.

Real Estate and Travel Agents

If we’re being honest, there aren’t many travel agents around these days, although some agencies are still barely hanging on. On the other hand, real estate agents are doing better, but that won’t last forever. Thanks to the internet, it’s easier than ever to hop online, find a house or a resort that you’re interested in, and do the work needed to pursue it.

Since buying a house is a much larger monetary commitment, it’s still nice to have a professional help you with the financial and legal work. But you can easily find most other information about houses you’re interested in online.

Sports Referees and Umpires

Here’s a more intriguing inclusion that most people wouldn’t consider. There is a significantly smaller need for refs and umpires due to real-time video and accurate sensors. Fans and players won’t have to worry about bad calls ruining the game. Instead, video assistant referees will make instant calls that will be as accurate as possible.

Doctors and Lawyers

Now, it’s time for the most shocking careers that will be gone in the next few decades: the high-paying jobs of doctors and lawyers. Granted, it’ll be a while until they’re not needed at all. We’ll still need friendly faces who can make lifesaving decisions in the medical field for years to come, and lawyers who can read a person’s emotions to determine whether they’re lying or not.

However, both careers are based on memorizing facts, which a computer will always be able to do better than a human. Given enough time, robots will be able to do the other parts of those jobs, too.
