7 Travel Facts That Will Make You Want to Travel the World

It’s summertime once again, and the travel bug is certainly spreading. People all over the world are flocking to their favorite destinations for vacation.

Many travel for the thrill of exploration. They want to go places they’ve never been and see things they’ve yet to see.

Others aren’t so sure if they want to travel. Perhaps you’re one of them.

If that’s the case, we might be able to help. Traveling is a truly fascinating subject with many interesting facts out there to keep you interested. we’ll talk some more about these travel facts in the paragraphs below.

1. Libya Is Almost Entirely Desert

Over 90% of Libya is taken up by the Sahara. The major population centers, the biggest being Tripoli and Benghazi, tend to be clustered along the coast.

For this reason, Libya has a very low population density, roughly 10 people per square mile.

The total population of Libya is only about 6 million, and almost 5 million live in cities.

2. 61,000 People Are Travelling Through US Air Space at Any Given Time

This means that US  air space has a greater population than the Marshall Islands. This might be because the US has the most airports in the world, despite having only about 4% of the world’s population.

It’s also worth noting that of the 10 largest airlines in the world, the US owns 4 of them. China is the only other nation that owns more than 1 airline on the list. It has two: China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines.

Speaking of Chinese airlines, China Airlines turns 60 this year. Visit this site if you want a deal on a trip to Taipei.

3. New Guinea Speaks the Most Languages of Any Country

You wouldn’t think that a small nation like New Guinea would be home to over 850 different languages, but it is. This is especially surprising since the country only has a population of about 8 million.

That’s more than one language for every 10,000 people. The reason for this has to do with New Guinea both historically and geographically.

New Guinea has been populated for 40,000 years, which gives time for a lot of languages to develop. In most cases, this number would pare itself down as cultures interacted, conquered and forced language upon one another, and meshed together over time.

New Guinea is an exception because it has a variety of different terrains, which can make it difficult to get from one area of the country to another. It’s also important to note that a large majority of people in New Guinea live in rural areas, so contact between people is still somewhat limited.

4. Most of the World’s Lakes Are in Canada

Minnesota may be known as the land of 10,000 lakes, but that pales in comparison to Canada. Canada is home to over 2 million lakes.

That’s not just more lakes than any other country in the world, but more than every other country in the world. Canada is also the second-largest country in the world behind Russia, so that’s a lot of space for lakes.

5. Travel Is Good for You

These travel facts might be some of the best news you hear all day.

Studies have shown that travel can have all sorts of health benefits. It’s been shown to make us happier and make our brains function better.

Travelling can help with symptoms of depression, and even make us more creative. How can you not be with so many new experiences to work with?

Not only do our brains function better, but so do our immune systems. Different places mean different germs and illnesses, which the body then learns how to fight off.

Plus, all the physical activity involved in sight-seeing will help decrease our chances of heart disease and help keep us fit.

6. Russia Contains Almost a Quarter of the World’s Forests

Most of these forests are contained in Siberia, which constitutes most of Russia and a few bordering countries, such as Kazakhstan and Mongolia.

To put the size into perspective, Russia is the largest country in the world and has a larger surface area than Pluto.

That vast amount of trees means a lot of oxygen being produced. It’s believed that most of the oxygen in the world right now comes from these forests.

7. Austria Has the Most Paid Vacation Days of Any Country

Austria leads the world with 22 paid vacation days every year, as well as 13 paid holidays.

Austria may lead the pack, but the European Union as a whole is not far behind. The European Union legally requires its member states to provide four weeks of paid vacation to all workers.

It’s hard to say what effect, if any, this has on the economy. Many nations in the European Union seem to be doing very well economically, while others are still struggling quite a bit.

The United States doesn’t require companies to give any paid vacation days, though most companies still do. About 25% of workers don’t get any paid vacation time.

Some Americans don’t use their vacation time at all. Furthermore, the number of paid days off people take is declining.
