5 Common RV Renting Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Did you know that the number of camper households was over 80 million in North America in 2020? That’s a lot of people hitting the open road in an RV.

Renting an RV is fun. The freedom of being able to take off on a whim, heading where the wind takes you, is great. But to enjoy your travels, it’s important to plan correctly.

This article will highlight some of the common RV renting mistakes and how they can be avoided.

1. Not Renting the Right Size RV

If you’re looking for an RV that will accommodate the whole family, rent a camper that’s larger than what you need now.

This allows you to make sure it fits your needs before buying. If you’re only going out with one other person or two children, look for an RV that’s small enough so everyone can still call dibs on their favorite spot in the bed.

2. Not Getting Insurance Coverage

Many people assume that their credit card provides coverage if anything happens while they’re traveling in their rental vehicle. Unfortunately, this isn’t always true.

Always check with your credit card company before renting RVs for road trips. This way, you can make sure you have adequate coverage in case of damage or theft.

3. Not Knowing How Much Fuel Costs Will Be

Renting an RV can be a lot of fun. However, you need to make sure that you properly fuel your vehicle before leaving the rental location.

Not knowing how much fuel costs will be can lead to an empty tank and lots of wasted money. If you’re not sure how much it will cost, ask the staff at the rental office for help.

4. Not Checking Your Vehicle Beforehand

If you want to rent an RV for your next trip, make sure that you inspect the vehicle before leaving for your trip.

Make sure that all the parts of the vehicle work properly and that nothing is missing from it. If there is any damage in the vehicle, then make sure that this damage gets repaired before leaving for your trip.

This is so there are no problems during the journey, and you are safe.

5. Not Asking About Amenities and Features

Some companies charge extra for certain things like satellite TV or Wi-Fi access. Others include it as part of their standard package.

Make sure you ask about common RV amenities before booking. This way, you’ll know what’s included in the price and what isn’t.

Common RV Renting Mistakes: This Is What Not to Do

The most important thing you can do as a renter is to research your rental.

Rental RVs are fun to use and can provide a great way to see the country. However, there are a few common RV renting mistakes you can make. Knowing what you’re getting into is the first step toward getting everything that you want out of your experience.
